Generally, most states have instituted "hands free" laws... you can talk on your cell so long as it is on a hands free device. Text Messaging, holding the cell, etc. is often considered wreckless driving and is a pretty hefty ticket.

But, there's a general rule that police typically only pull someone over for something like that if they are ALSO doing something else: not wearing a seat belt, actually driving wrecklessly, speeding, etc.

I'd like to add my own favorite example of the honorable (or should that be horrible) Japanese driving manner. As I'm sure you know, manga is enjoyed by all. From the ankle-bitting Gadzookis to the lifeless shells of the salaryman on their way home to their lifeless wife and lifeless children.
But where do they read this supreme form of literature? WHILE DRIVING!
I can't count how many times I've these squinty-eyed, tentacled-panty-stealing, spiky-haired faggots reading their little picture books on the steering wheel or even while cycling their bikes into on-coming traffic and then wonder why there are so many blood-splattered traffic accidents.
Anyway, 'grads on yet another outstanding episode from America's favorite geeks.

Japan fun fact...

on one hand, much to my jaw dropping surprise... It's totally fine to be drinking alcohol (open container, keg whatever) whilst driving along in a car as long as the DRIVER is sober. the passengers can go hog wild HOWEVER should the driver be deemed drunk, he or she along with every passenger WITH A LICENSE in the car is fined about 2,000 bucks!
even if the driver is the only one who fails the sobriety test..

an ancient Japanese custom known as "kicking the fucking shit out of the driver" generally ensues if that happens

Imagine how much it would suck to have that happen in a big ass van with 10 people piled in! lots of cash for the pigs to roll in!

also, if a cop catches ye even holding or looking at a cell phone while behind the wheel of a moving car, 300 bucks fine for you fucking round eye!

i think that the cops should be totally given permission to fully kill people with large guns on sight when they see them gabbing on phones..I think you may know how I feel about this from an older post?

what's the word on cell phones/ driving in the states these days?
